Five things to ask a website designer on your consultation call

The best way to find a web designer who will be a good fit for your business is to schedule a consultation call. This is your chance to get to know the designer and see if they’re someone you feel comfortable working with. The great thing is that many designers and developers will offer this call free of charge! To help you make the most of your consultation call, here are five questions you might like to ask.

You’ve decided that your business needs a website. Congratulations! Having an online presence is essential in today’s digital world. Your next step is to find a web designer who can turn your vision into reality. But with so many options out there, it can be difficult to decide who to work with.

The best way to find a web designer who will be a good fit for your business is to schedule a free consultation call. This is your chance for you both to get to know each other and see if you might be compatible. It’s so important that you choose a designer that you feel comfortable working alongside and that they can confidently answer any questions you’ll have along the way. It’s also an opportunity for the designer to learn more about your business and what you’re looking for in a website.

To help you make the most of your free consultation call, here are five questions you might like to ask:

What is your design process like?

You want to make sure that the designer has a process in place for designing websites. Ask them how they typically work with clients, from start to finish. Find out how much input they need from you and how often they’ll check in with you during the design process. It’s good to know if they use any particular software to manage your process so you can get a feel for how organised they might be. For example, you might want to ask how they like to communicate and what their process is for receiving content from you.

How do you handle revisions?

No matter how well you and the designer communicate, there will likely be some revision rounds before the website is finalised. It’s important to understand how the designer handles revisions and how many rounds of revisions are included in their pricing. Do they allow for minor tweaks during the build or does everything need to be confirmed by you before they begin?

What does your pricing include?

Make sure you understand what’s included in the price quote before committing to anything. For example, will the quoted price cover revisions or only the initial design? Additionally, find out if there are any additional costs that could come up during or after the design process (e.g., hosting fees, domain registration, etc.). If you decide after the design has been confirmed that you want to add another section or page, what would the designer charge for this?

Do you have experience with my industry/niche?

It can be helpful to work with a web designer who has experience in your industry or niche. They may already have some knowledge of the challenges and opportunities that come with designing for your particular type of business. However, it’s not necessary to find someone with direct experience in your field – any good web designer should be able to design a beautiful and effective website for any type of business.

What is your availability like?

Web design projects can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the scope of the project. You’ll want to make sure that the designer has enough time available in their schedule to work on your project within your desired timeline.

A free consultation call is a great opportunity to get to know a potential web designer and see if they would be a good fit for your project. By asking these five questions, you can learn more about the designer’s process, pricing, availability, and experience level. Armed with this information, you can make an informed decision about whether or not to hire this person to design your website.

If you’re interesting in finding out my own process, I’d love for you to get in touch so we can set up a call to get to know each other! Drop me an email to tell me a little about your business and I’ll be in touch.
